Men’s Corner: An Introduction
Is it the guy in the Dos Equis Beer commercial? Is it the guy in the Old Spice commercial? Everyone, including you, has an opinion.
I found many opinions from both men and women…well, mostly from women. Common words and phrases used include: compassionate, humble, full of heart, caring, assertive, confident, funny, smart, honest, hardworking, ambitious, mature, affectionate.
Words that were rarely found: chiseled chin, built, strong, tall, dark, handsome, rugged, athletic.
Many people would agree, at the end of the day, the character of the man is far more important than the physical qualities of the man.
Well, we all live in the real world. Time keeps going. Life happens. Things change. We change. I find myself saying, I don’t feel as old as I am. I looked in the mirror the other day and, for the first time, I could see the tired appearance under my eyes beginning to show. I was a little taken aback. Does my wife care? No…. at least I don’t think so. Do I care? Yes. Am I going to have surgery tomorrow? No. But will I one day? Maybe.
Why do men undergo aesthetic procedures, either non-surgical or surgical?
From 2009 to 2014 there has been a 43% increase in men receiving non-surgical or surgical aesthetic procedures. Over 1.5 million procedures were performed on men in 2015.
Whether you know it or not, men around you are making adjustments to maintain their appearance.
For me, I just want to look my best. I want to maintain my appearance, because I like it. I work out for myself. I dress up and go to work every day for myself.
I want to look as young as I feel, not as old as I am.
What are some other reasons for maintenance?
Again, this is real life. It would be nice if we were all judged by our accomplishments and our character, but that’s not reality. The work force environment and career ladder can be harsh. I don’t know first-hand about the dating scene, but I have friends both young and old, some having gone through a divorce. It’s been proven time and time again, women and men judge others by their appearance. First impressions do matter. Some things we, as men, can’t change: Height. Some things we, as men, can work on: Staying in shape. And some things can only change through a procedure.
Are you less of man because you have a non-surgical or surgical procedure? The answer is no!
Every month I plan to write a piece for men. Topics will vary, but should relate to us. If there is a topic or question that you would like to have discussed, email it to our Marketing Director: kendall@coolspringsplasticsurgery.net
